DAKAR, June 30 — Mail’s Ansar Dine Islamist group on Saturday destroyed mausoleums in Timbuktu, that was considered a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988, witnesses stated.

The mausoleums happen to be destroyed since 5:00 a.m. ‘life was imple’ through the Ansar Dine group, witnesses told Xinhua reporters.

Witnesses stated the rebels are ongoing to eliminate the relaxation from the 16 mausoleums.

Ansar Dine, which really wants to impose sharia (Islamic law) across all Mali, states Timbuktu’s famous shrines to local saints are not- Islamic.

The Mali government bodies asked for the UNESCO to put Timbuktu on its listing of heritage sites at risk following the group along with other separatist rebels grabbed the northern area of the western Africa condition in April. The UNESCO recognized Mali’s request now.

Throughout its twelfth session in December 1988, the planet Heritage Committee selected areas of Timbuktu’s historic center for inscription on its World Heritage list.

Timbuktu, having a population of 54,000, may be the capital from the Timbuktu region.

Following a military coup in Mali, Timbuktu was taken through the Tuareg rebels and Ansar Dine in earlier April.[db:内容2]
