China gives 16.03 bln yuan to preschools

BEIJING, Nov. 22 — The Ministry of Finance on Friday said the central government has allocated 16.03 billion yuan (2.61 billion U.S. dollars) to boost preschool education.
The fund will be mainly used to support kindergartens to give disadvantaged families easier access to preschool education, especially those of migrant workers or with financial difficulties, or orphans and disabled children.
The central government has spent 42.24 billion yuan on preschooling since 2011 when it started to build more kindergartens and train more teachers, according to the ministry website. The ministry subsidizes school operations to make them more accessible.
About 65,000 kindergartens have since been built and 139,000 children subsidized.
About 64.5 percent of the children of appropriate age were enrolled in kindergartens at the end of 2012, said the statement.[db:内容2]
