Australia eyes Nanjing holidaymakers

SYDNEY, July 1 — China Eastern Airlines has partnered with an Australian government tourism agency to promote travel to Sydney and the state of New South Wales (NSW) from Nanjing in China.
Four new travel packages have been created by Destination NSW to entice Chinese visitors to explore the state from a Sydney base- – with Sydney the destination for 97 percent of visitors to NSW from China.
The headline package includes a six night and seven day itinerary exploring Sydney and surrounds, featuring the Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains and Port Stephens.
Another three multi-destination packages are specially tailored for seniors, families and self-drive holidays.
Including China Eastern promotional airfares, the packages will be sold through five Nanjing retail travel agents.
The airline currently flies three times a week from Nanjing to Sydney, also stopping at Beijing.
NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said the campaign marks the start of a new partnership between China Eastern Airlines and Destination NSW.
“The growth in visitors to NSW from China over the last five years is nothing short of incredible. Since 2008, the number of visitors has increased by 53 percent, visitor nights by 54 percent and expenditure by a staggering 84 percent,” said Stoner.
“In the year ended March 2013 we welcomed over 383,500 visitors to NSW from mainland China — almost a 20 percent increase on last year — and those visitors spent over 1.3 billion AU dollars and stayed 11.3 nights.
“Today’s agreement with China Eastern Airlines will provide another boost to tourism in NSW,” he added.
The deputy premier will participate in a Destination NSW Tourism Forum during his latest trade mission to Chengdu, promoting tourism to the state to seven Chinese travel companies including China Southern Airlines, Hong Kong Dragon Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Chengdu Overseas Tourist Branch.
“The message to China’s travel industry is that NSW is ready for increased tourist numbers from China — we have the products and we have the breathtaking scenery and unique experiences,” said Stoner.
“Be that outstanding food and wine, nature or adventure experiences, or great shopping and major events, visitors from China can be assured a very warm welcome,” he added.[db:内容2]
